In order to install VirtualBox on your machine, you’ll need:

  1. Processor – Any recent Intel or AMD processor support should run.
  2. Memory – It will depend on what guest operation system you are intended to run, you need spare RAM to allocate to the VMs, so at least 512 MB of RAM. Basically, you’ll need to check the minimum RAM requirements of your host operation system to run smoothly, plus the amount of your guest operation system needs to run. In some cases you can run a Virtual Machine with 512MB of RAM in other cases you’ll need at least 2GB of RAM.  So, you’ll need at least 4GB of RAM to run comfortably, and the more the better.
  3. Hard disk space –  The virtual machines will require huge files on the host disks to represent their own hard disk storage. So, in order to install Windows 8 or Windows 10, will create file that will easily grow to 10 GB in size, for example.
  4. Host operation systems supported – Windows, many Linux Distributions, Mac OS X, Solaris and Open Solaris.
  5. Guest operation systems supported – Besides the operation systems listed above, you can check up-to-date information at the official website.
